From Barista To Business Owner Pella’s Local Coffee Roaster & Café

A familiar face in the local coffee scene, Megan DaGraaf's journey from barista to business owner is one of growth, passion, and a deep love for coffee, and she is ready to carry on the legacy of Iris Coffee Co while introducing her own creative touch.
 
Originally from Michigan, Megan found her way to Pella after attending Dordt University. Now, with her husband, Matt, she has made a home here both personally and professionally. Her coffee journey began several years ago when she started as a barista at Iris Coffee Co. Over time, Megan learned the ins and outs of the business—roasting coffee, managing the store, and eventually stepping into the role of owner.
 
As a new owner, Megan embraces the opportunity to get creative with the menu. While she continues to honor the tradition of offering seasonal drinks like her predecessor, Megan has put her own spin on things. “I still embrace experimenting with drinks. The previous owner did a seasonal menu, and that’s something I’m continuing,” she explained. “I love a good themed menu! It’s fun being able to be creative and try new things.”
 
"My team and I get to be creative and experiment with drinks,” Megan said. “We’re all the creative minds behind everything. It’s definitely a group effort. For example, when we were planning the upcoming Farmers Market menu, I asked the team to name something they can find at a Farmers Market and then imagine how we can make that into a drink. There’s a lot of playing around and tasting involved. And yes, some of the drinks are terrible, but experimenting is how we find the good ones.”
